Intro to Python Programming

Thank you for your interest in our Intro to Python Programming Virtual Learning class for Summer 2021.  This course is recommended for students who will be in middle or high school in the Fall of 2021.


This Python Programming course uses the Python language to teach introductory computer programming. This 12-week course is a perfect introduction to computer science.


Beginning Friday, June 4th, students will meet via Zoom once per week for class discussion and project instruction.  The class will meet from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. each Friday from June 4th through
August 27th - with the exception of July 2nd, which will be a holiday in recognition of the 4th of July.

This course covers fundamental coding topics and skills such as:

  • Printing and User Input

  • Data types and variables

  • Logical expressions and flow control

  • Debugging skills

  • Lists and Loops

  • Working with numbers, dates and strings

  • Writing and using functions

  • Simple Object-Oriented Programming

Students will complete hands-on coding projects, including writing code directly in an online Python engine; no local software installation is required.  This course requires a computer or tablet with an Internet connection.

To participate in this course, students do NOT need prior programming knowledge.  Students merely need to have typical computer usage skills prior to starting this course. The chosen programming language is Python 3.x.

The cost of the class is $75 per student. Families with multiple students will receive a $25 discount for each additional child. Please note: each child will need to have access to their own device during class meeting times.
